For artists
Apply to join Renavia Art
We represent a small number of living classical and realist painters, and handle the selling, shipping, teaching and paperwork so you can stay in the studio. You choose what we may do with your work, one permission at a time.
What we do for you
Everything below is included. Payment fees and our routine service costs come out of our half, not yours.
A monograph page
A considered page for your work: biography, statement, works hung to scale, exhibitions and press, in English and Chinese.
Sales, end to end
Advisors answer collectors, take payment, arrange crating and handle returns. You confirm the sale and sign the certificate.
50% of net proceeds
On originals and commissions, the price received less any refund, split 50/50. On prints, courses and Spaces projects, agreed direct costs come off first. Framing is a separate service and is never split.
Editions and prints
Signed giclée editions, open-edition prints, books and cards, made from studio-quality photography. You approve every proof.
Teaching
Recorded courses and live masterclasses, filmed and edited by us, with Traditional Chinese subtitles.
Commissions
Portrait clients come to you through an advisor who manages the brief, the schedule and the three payments.
Insured shipping
Fine-art shippers collect from your studio. Every work is insured from the moment it leaves you.
Payouts twice a month
Itemised statements in your Artist Studio, paid by bank transfer once the return window has closed.
Who we look for
Classical and realist painters with a body of work
Portrait, figure, still life, landscape and drawing, made from observation. We accept a few painters each quarter, and we would rather say not yet than take on more artists than we can sell well.
If we say not yet, we tell you why, and you are welcome to apply again after twelve months.
How we review applications
- Quality and consistencyDrawing, values, colour and finish across the whole body of work, not just the best two pieces.
- Documentation and rightsGood photographs, dates, sizes and media, and clear ownership of the images and any reference used.
- AvailabilityEnough finished, unsold work to show, and a realistic sense of what you make in a year.
- FitHow your work sits with our collectors and the painters we already represent, and any existing gallery agreements.
- Teaching potentialNot required. If you teach, we look at how clearly you explain what you do.
After you apply
What happens next
- ReviewTwo members of our curatorial team look at every application. You hear from us within 10 business days.
- A 30-minute interviewBy video, in English or Mandarin. We talk about your work, your plans and what you want from us.
- The agreementOne plain-English agreement with separate permissions you can switch on or off, now or later.
- OnboardingWe photograph your available work, write your page with you and publish when you approve it.
Questions from artists
Write to artists@renaviaart.com with anything else.
Do I have to be exclusive to Renavia Art?
No. You can keep your galleries and sell from your studio. We only ask that a work listed with us is not offered elsewhere at the same time, and that prices are the same everywhere.
Who sets the prices?
You do. We share what comparable works have sold for and may suggest a range, but the final price is always yours.
How is the 50% worked out?
On an original, you receive half of the price the collector paid, less any refund. A $2,000 painting pays you $1,000. Card fees, photography and advisors come out of our half.
On prints, courses and Spaces projects, the agreed direct costs such as printing come off first, then the rest is split 50/50. Commissions have no direct costs, and framing is a separate service that is never split.
Will my images be used to train AI?
No. AI training is not a permission in the agreement and cannot be added. The same restriction is written into every licence we issue for your work.
Can I leave?
Yes, with 60 days’ notice. Works on reserve or in an open order are completed; everything else comes down and unsold works are returned at our cost.
